SCHOOL LANE, KETTERING
Occupying the site of a former car parts warehouse in the centre of Kettering, the brief dictated that the new building was to provide 16 one-bed flats as well as incorporating first floor office space and retail units on the ground floor.
The surrounding architecture can best be described as ‘drab’ so it was necessary to create a modern building to inject a bit of life back into the area.
The proposed design is not only significantly taller than the structure it replaced, but also of a completely new style. This meant that we had to work very closely with the Kettering planning authority to ensure that the scheme passed with as little trouble as possible.
It’s central location within the town also meant that space would be of a premium during construction so a comprehensive plan was drawn up to ensure all disruption was kept to an absolute minimum.
The full design of the new building was completed in-house by our team of expert designers. Careful planning allowed us to provide all 16 apartments on the top two floors and to provide 1,100 sq m of commercial space spread over the ground and first floors.
The modern design features a gullwing roof and silver birch cladding over gorgeous polished red concrete blocks. In all the building is a lovely contrast to its surroundings.
